Interceptor
Interceptor for dogs is a parasite prevention treatment made by Novartis. More than one parasite is killed by Interceptor; heartworm, two kinds of roundworm, hookworms and whipworms.
Novartis makes Interceptor flavor tabs for dogs and also cats (although in the case of interceptor for cats, the drug only protects against heartworm, adult roundworms and adult hookworms).

Interceptor Adminstration
Interceptor for dogs should be given monthly and the owner should watch carefully to ensure the entire dose has been ingested. In the unlikely case it hasn’t, the dose will need to be made up. Interceptor heartworm medicine should not be used on puppies of less than four weeks of age and less than 2lbs of body weight. Once they have reached the minimum age and weight criteria they need to be tested, and once they are in the clear, they can start treatment.
Interceptor For Dogs vs. Heartgard, Iverhart & Sentinel
Interceptor’s main competitors are Heartgard Plus, Iverhart Plus and Sentinel. All come in a flavored tab format that can be administered directly to your pet. Like Interceptor, Sentinel uses Milbemycin Oxime to kill heartworm and target other worms. Sentinel also has added flea control with the addition of an extra compound (Lufenuron). Iverhart and Heartgard use ivermectin to tackle heartworms and pyrantel in the eradication of other worms. Enterceptor and Sentinel include whipworms in their spectrum of influence, whereas Heartgard does not, but it does control more species of hookworms than its rivals.
